NORTH CAROLINA SPORTS NETWORK LIST:
ACC/NC Players On 53-Man NFL Rosters
Wolfpack, Tar Heels Lead In-State Programs;
Clemson, Miami, Virginia Tech Top ACC Numbers
By David Glenn
North Carolina Sports Network
National Football League teams had until Tuesday at 4 pm to trim their rosters from 90 to 53 players.
Below are the players from North Carolina-based college football programs and/or Atlantic Coast Conference football programs who made either a 53-man NFL roster announced Tuesday or (as shown in parentheses) remain on the roster as an inactive player with an injury or other special designation.
As usual, among in-state programs, NC State (21) and UNC (18) have the most players on 53-man NFL rosters. The in-state ACC theme continues with Wake Forest (14) and Duke (11).
Among in-state programs beyond the ACC, Appalachian State (9) of the Sun Belt Conference, East Carolina (5) of the American Athletic Conference and Charlotte (4), a new member of the AAC, lead the way.
Campbell, Elon, Fayetteville State, Lenoir-Rhyne, North Carolina A&T, Western Carolina and Wingate also are represented on 53-man NFL rosters, with one or two players each.
Among ACC programs, Clemson (36), Miami (25), Virginia Tech (22), NC State (21), Pittsburgh (19) and UNC (18) have the most players on 53-man NFL rosters.
Each NFL team also has a 16-man practice squad; these players (not yet listed below) are not on the active roster or eligible for games, but they can be called up to the parent club. Practice squad members will be added to the list below, with the practice-squad notation, in the coming days.
(NOTES: 1-The list below may change daily because of additional roster transactions; 2-Not all players who finished their college careers elsewhere are included below, as they are listed on NFL rosters with only the final college they attended, but we are attempting to include those players, too, with the appropriate notations.)

NOTE: This week’s David Glenn Show podcast (link below) included both a lengthy, 1-on-1 interview with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and a “Top 10 Preseason State of North Carolina Football Questions” list, complete with discussion of all seven in-state FBS programs, all seven in-state FCS teams, many ACC angles and much more. Enjoy!
