The Southeastern Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12 Conference collectively dominated the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s major athletic competitions during the recently completed 2023-24 academic year, with a combined 21 NCAA team championships in the 27 ACC-sponsored sports.

The SEC led the way with eight NCAA team titles in those sports, including in higher-profile postseason competitions such as the College World Series (Tennessee) and the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament (South Carolina).

The ACC finished second, with seven NCAA team titles in the 27 sports it sponsors, as seven different member schools (see below) won one national championship each, continuing the most successful three-year run in conference history. The ACC actually sponsors 28 sports, including men’s fencing and women’s fencing, but there is only one (coed) NCAA fencing champion each year.

The Big 12 finished third, with six NCAA team titles in those sports, although three of those national championships were won by Oklahoma or Texas, which are leaving the league for the SEC this summer.

The disintegrating Pac-12 also won eight total NCAA team titles during the 2023-24 cycle, but only two of those (women’s golf, men’s swimming and diving) came in sports widely sponsored across the major conferences.

All but two Pac-12 schools, Oregon State and Washington State, are leaving the league this summer for the ACC (California, Stanford), Big 12 (Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah) or Big Ten (Oregon, Southern Cal, UCLA, Washington).
