While April represented the bulk of the NCAA’s 2025 transfer window for men’s basketball, most Division One programs across North Carolina are expected to continue to supplement their 2025-26 rosters with players from other major college teams well into the summer months.

UNC Wilmington (sixth-year head coach Takayo Siddle is pictured above) and High Point (under brand-new head coach Flynn Clayman) were among the in-state teams that — while losing multiple key performers from last year’s squad — signed multiple players with proven production at the junior college or major college level even before the April 22 close of this year’s portal-entry window.

The Seahawks (Coastal Athletic Association) and the Panthers (Big South) were conference champions and NCAA Tournament participants in 2024-25.

After the season, High Point head coach Alan Huss accepted an assistant coaching position at Creighton, his alma mater, with the expectation that he will be elevated to head coach whenever long-time Bluejays leader Greg McDermott retires.

Appalachian State, Charlotte, Davidson, Gardner-Webb and others also added multiple accomplished signees during the opening two months of this year’s transfer circuit.

Reflecting the overwhelming impact of the transfer portal and rule changes that enable immediate eligibility for almost all transfers, each of the 15 North Carolina-based programs listed below have added more transfers than they did high school or international prospects, in most cases by a significant margin.

2025-26 NC Basketball Newcomers
Total—School (Transfers/HS or Int. Signees)

11—Charlotte (9/2), Gardner-Webb (9/2), High Point (8/3)
8—Appalachian State (5/3)
7—Elon (6/1)
6—Davidson (4/2), East Carolina (4/2), North Carolina A&T (4/2), UNC Wilmington (6/0), Western Carolina (4/2)
5—Campbell (5/0), Queens (3/2), UNC Asheville (3/2), UNC Greensboro (3/2)
2—NC Central (2/0)

High school seniors who missed the early signing period last November have an option to sign their binding national letter of intent during the Spring 2025 signing period (April 16-May 21). After that May 21 deadline, prospects can sign only an athletics aid agreement, which is non-binding and not part of the National Letter of Intent (NLI) program.
