In March, the North Carolina Sports Network selected its 2023-24 “All-North Carolina” basketball team, consisting of the best in-state players beyond those who play in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Since then, while some of those star players have exhausted their college eligibility, most of the rest have entered the NCAA transfer portal, typically with the hope of 1-playing for a higher-profile team, 2-experiencing a higher-profile conference and/or 3-maximizing their Name-Image-Likeness compensation.

Here’s our 15-man “All-North Carolina” squad, plus honorable mentions, listed with the honors they received from their respective conferences. Their current status for next season (2024-25) is written in ALL CAPS.

The ACC, the Big 12 and especially the SEC have been the top beneficiaries of this exodus of elite talent from North Carolina’s mid-major programs.

App State’s Spillers and ECU’s Johnson, for example, quickly committed to Wake Forest and Miami, respectively. They currently project as those ACC teams’ starting power forwards in 2024-25.

UNCW’s White and Campbell’s Dell’Orso are headed to the Big 12 — Texas Christian and Arizona, respectively. The Wildcats, long-time members of the Pac-12, will join the Big 12 this summer.

The SEC, meanwhile, has lured Brown-Jones (Mississippi), Huffman (Vanderbilt), Miles (Oklahoma) and Milicic (Tennessee). After 28 years in the Big 12, the Sooners officially will become SEC members in July.
