David Glenn

In more than three decades as a professional sports media member, mainly in North Carolina but also nationally and internationally, David Glenn has built a truly unique, Hall of Fame-caliber resume, repeatedly earning awards, honors and/or accolades for his broadcasting, entrepreneurial, interviewing, speaking, storytelling, teaching and writing skills.

Glenn initially gained regional renown in the 1990s, as the founding editor and long-time owner of ACCSports.com and the ACC Sports Journal, which he helped turn into the best-selling college sports magazine in history. He now has covered the ACC for more than 35 years, and his articles have appeared in the ACC Sports Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, USA Today, Durham Herald-Sun, TheAthletic.com, Chapelboro.com and dozens of other newspapers, magazines and websites. Bush), world-renowned authors (John Grisham, Stephen King), famous entertainers (Brooklyn Decker, Kevin James, Adam Sandler) and hundreds of the most celebrated sports figures in history, including Hank Aaron, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Mario Andretti, Charles Barkley, Bobby Bowden, Bob Costas, Steph Curry, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mike Eruzione, Wayne Gretzky, Mia Hamm, Michael Jordan, Mike Krzyzewski, Sugar Ray Leonard, John McEnroe, Al Michaels, Reggie Miller, Martina Navratilova, Arnold Palmer, Chris Paul, Richard Petty, Gary Player, Oscar Robertson, Vin Scully, Dean Smith, Steve Spurrier, Roger Staubach, Dabo Swinney, Mike Tyson, Dick Vitale, Abby Wambach and Roy Williams.

In 2013 and again in 2019 (honored in 2014 and 2021), Glenn became the first person working primarily in the sports-talk-show genre ever selected as the North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year, an award first given in 1959, by the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). As a multi-time winner, Glenn joined an elite list that also includes legendary UNC play-by-play broadcaster Woody Durham (the late “Voice of the Tar Heels”), Wally Ausley (WPTF-AM in Raleigh in the 1970s), Bill Currie (WSOC-TV in Charlotte in the 1960s), Bob Harris (former Duke play-by-play voice), Steve Martin (former play-by-play voice of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets) and Mick Mixon (former play-by-play voice of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers), among others.

In 2021, Glenn also became an adjunct professor in the Department of Communication at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where his classes include elements of sports broadcasting (radio/TV/podcasts/play-by-play/color commentary/hosting/reporting), sports business, sports communication (fan/media/public relations), sports history, sports law, sports marketing (digital, social media) and sports writing (magazines, newspapers, websites). In 2022, Glenn was honored with UNCW’s prestigious Make-A-Difference Award, which is given to select faculty in a vote of graduating seniors.

A journalism school graduate, sportswriter and sports editor long before he entered sports radio, Glenn is the author of seven ACC-related productions/publications, including “Royal Blue: The History of Duke Basketball” (Raycom), “Tar Heels On Tape” (Village Companies) and ‘The History Of The ACC Tournament” (Raycom).
