Although history has shown that high school basketball recruiting rankings can be wildly inaccurate on individual prospects, it’s also true that they have a pretty good track record at the top of the list.

Indeed, during the 2025-26 college basketball season, the top two players in the Atlantic Coast Conference were the two highest-ranked members of the high school Class of 2025 who signed with ACC programs last year: Duke forward Cameron Boozer (#3 in the 247Sports Composite Rankings) and UNC forward Caleb Wilson (#5).

Overall, almost every highly productive freshman in the ACC this season was either an international prospect or, more frequently, a member of last year’s top-100 prep recruiting rankings, i.e., Boozer, Wilson, Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie (#100), Louisville point guard Mikel Brown Jr. (#8), Virginia point guard Chance Mallory (#64), Notre Dame guard Jalan Haralson (#17), Miami forward Shelton Henderson (#23), NC State guard Matt Able (#26) and Syracuse guard Kiyan Anthony (#34).

This year, three ACC programs were represented in the 2026 McDonald’s All-American Game, and at least four ACC coaches have secured highly ranked high school recruiting classes for the 2026-27 season, with Duke’s Jon Scheyer, Florida State’s Luke Loucks, Stanford’s Kyle Smith and Pitt’s Jeff Capel leading the way.

The 2026 McDonald’s Game included four players (in order of their composite national ranking) who previously committed to ACC programs: #2 Cameron Williams (Duke), #10 Deron Rippey Jr. (Duke), #13 Caleb Gaskins (Miami) and #21 Maximo Adams (UNC).

Meanwhile, in April, May and June, Louisville made the biggest splashes, signing Kansas forward Flory Bidunga (2026 All-Big 12) and Oregon guard Jackson Shelstad (2025 All-Big Ten), among others. Duke, Miami and UNC also secured top-10 portal classes.

A few of the ACC recruiting classes outlined below may continue to be supplemented this summer, with some combination of major college transfers, junior college stars, international prospects and/or additional high school seniors.

It’s important to understand that the NCAA’s transfer window for men’s basketball has changed yet again.

This year, for most players (those whose head coach left have more flexibility), the transfer window was open for only 15 days (April 7-21), Last year, players had 30 days to enter the portal, down from 45 days in 2024 and 60 days in 2023. Reminder: A player can select his new school at any time during or after the transfer window; the dates listed govern only portal entry.

Also, high school seniors who bypassed the early signing period in November had another opportunity to sign their institutional financial-aid agreements during the Spring 2026 signing period, which began April 15. NCAA schools stopped using the long-standing National Letter of Intent program in 2024, so the effective deadline for spring and summer college decisions now varies according to each university’s enrollment deadlines, policies and practices.

Finally, when considering scholarship numbers for each program, remember that the recently approved House-NCAA legal settlement effectively eliminated the long-standing 13-scholarship limit in men’s basketball while instituting a 15-man roster cap (regardless of scholarship/walk-on status) in the sport.
